The role of a teacher: First, let me express what I feel to be an important distinction. I am a teacher, not an instructor. Teachers communicate effectively to promote learning. Instructors provide information and demonstrate in some cases that which is being instructed. Teachers interact with a student to encourage the student to react and demonstrate what they are learning so the teacher can effectively provide appropriate guidance.

John’s experience as a teacher began when he discovered he had the ability to effectively communicate and help someone understand a rhythm, and execute it. John focuses on musicianship and personal development. Styles of music are always of interest to many drummers and beginners. John’s approach doesn’t limit the student to a style of playing. However, the many styles of drumming and various techniques are a critical part of the learning process, and are included as part of the learning process depending on the student’s ability and maturity as a drummer/performer. More importantly, John focuses on giving the student the tools that will enable and empower the student to achieve their personal goals.
